What concerned Edward Snowden and Bill Binney was the fact that the NSA and GCHQ had access to anything and everything on the Internet and
they were capturing all of this data. The rules were applied after the data was stored in our government vaults. I refer to both of them often.
But most of the world has no idea who they are or what they did, nor how they suffered for their beliefs. I will include a chapter
on both Binney and Snowden later in the book.
The NSA is often pictured in a squat square building in Washington DC, but what you don't see is their giant data center in Bluffdale Utah.
Everything ever transmitted on the Internet
Your data is collected and rules are applied AFTER the collection of all your data on the Internet.
This means that every phone call, text message, email, social media post, web search, your geo coordinates or
just your casual browsing is being recorded and stored. The "wiretapping" of everyone in America is universal and complete.
Everything you do online or on your phone is digitally memorialized and stored in Bluffdale or GHCQ.
Access to this vast treasure trove of data in America is governed only by The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978,
or Ronald Reagan's Executive Order 12333 signed on December 4, 1981.
Both sets of rules curtailing "Big Brother" predated the emergence of the Internet and the World Wide Web in the 90's.
There is no way anyone could have predicted the capabilities for data capture that exist today. The rules that stop our governments from spying on us
were written more than 40 years ago. Our Congress has been too busy with their own re-elections to do anything on this travesty
for almost half a century. This is a disgrace. Talk to your rep.
There was barely an Internet in 1978. (But it did exist)
All of this information is supposedly only used for foreign surveillance. But there are exceptions.
The wonderful thing for the spymasters is both ends of any communication have a unique id. Your IP address.
The Nazi's were big on national identity cards, but they are not necessary anymore. Even if you use proxies or anonymizers, you can be identified.
Big Brother is watching you. You and your phone have an IP address. It is easily traceable. I can do it. So can you. So does your government.
What is Unmasking?
The NSA collects and stores almost all Internet traffic in the name of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
All of this "Foreign Intelligence" which includes all of the Internet traffic in the US is "legally" siezed and stored in a gigantic data center.
Located in Bluffdale Utah, the massive NSA database has every text you ever sent or received, every phone call you ever made, every page you ever browsed,
the time, and your GPS location when you did it. Edward Snowden was appalled and is now in exile for exposing only a portion of our Big Brother.
By law when this data is searched by the executive branch, US citizens are only refered to as "US person #1" or more.
The intent of FISA was to only spy on Foreigners. Thus the identity of US citizens is masked.
Certain officials in the executive branch can ask that the the identity of US person #x be unmasked (named).
This is a rather complex process and by law has many rules that apply.
It happens infrequently and by law should be only in cases of national security.
In the waning months of the Obama Administration, not only did FISA abuses skyrocket, but unmasking requests soared as well.
A study of the behaviour strongly suggests the weaponization of NSA data for political purposes was undertaken.
The five eyes intelligence networks (FVEY) collects all Internet data as well.
They only have limited ability, but the US is aggressively funding greater capacity.
Five Eyes (must read) countries are a confluence of English speaking countries.
They include the US, Great Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
The former NSA contractor, Edward Snowden, described the Five Eyes as a "supra-national intelligence organisation that
does not answer to the known laws of its own countries".
Many governnment agencies and individuals by title have access to this collection.
All five countries in FVEY have laws similar to FISA in the US. They, by law, cannot spy on their own citizens.
But there are no limits on eavesdropping or searching data on citizens in another country.
Thus the US can spy on Great Britain and conversely Great Britain can spy on the US. FVEY allows sharing of this data.
This is a nifty loophole for the intelligence communities. Everyone can spy on anyone around the world without a warrant.
Brennan and the CIA cannot legally listen to the NSA tap of the phones in Trump tower, but GHCQ in London can.
GHCQ can then legally send this information to John Brennan at CIA although GHCQ's counterpart is the NSA.
John Brennan can legally share this GHCQ information with Sally Yates at DOJ.
Sally Yates or an underling, who also hates General Michael Flynn, can then illegally and secretly leak the recipient and the contents of his
seized phone calls to the Washington Post and the New York Times.
The DOJ can then launch an investigation into the Obama hated General Flynn.
Later they would hand the whole sordid mess over to the special counsel, Bob Mueller.
Some casual phone calls may have implicated Flynn's son.
Armed with the "legally" obtained wiretaps from FVEY the Special Counsel team went after the distinguished General with a vengeance.
Flynn lost everything defending himself and his son only because he spoke to someone from Russia on the phone as part of his job.
Fiancially wiped out, his only choice was a plea deal. In the sentancing guidelines from the Special Counsel released in December 2018,
Mueller recommended no jail time for the distinguished 33 year combat veteran. He called him a good man. Some solace for Flynn and family? Not.
These phone calls were wiretapped without a warrant or probable cause by GHCQ in Great Britain.
They became legal warrantless evidence for Mueller's henchmen as a result of FVEY. General Flynn got screwed, royally.
This could happen to you, to anyone.
Andrew McCarthy in the National Review August 3, 2017 8:00 AM
"It is not a crime to unmask the identity of an American.
It is a discretionary call, even if we would think it bad judgment under the circumstances.
Thus, the question here is almost certainly not whether criminal offenses were committed. It is whether power was abused."
"The question here is almost certainly not whether criminal offenses were committed. It is whether power was abused."
"To answer that ultimate question, we need answers to several preliminary questions: Who did the unmasking?
Were these officials in jobs that generally do not involve unmasking decisions?
If yes, was there anything unusual going on that would justify the sudden change? Who was unmasked?
Were unmasked Americans in the opposition party’s campaign?
Was there a supporting rationale for the unmaskings that related to national security?
Was there an unusually high number of unmaskings? Were there unmaskings of people related to each other in some way,
such that we should suspect they were targeted rather than incidentally monitored?
Was there any correlation between unmaskings and leaks to the media?"
McCarthy just outlined the case against who?
Election-year searches by Obama's political aides and other government officials jumped 27.5% from 2015, tripling the "9,500 such searches" in 2013
to over 33,000.
"In 2016 the administration also scoured the actual contents of NSA intercepted calls and emails for 5,288 Americans,
an increase of 13% over the prior year and a massive spike from the 198 names searched in 2013."
By far the NSD Susan Rice of Benghazi fame was the premier unmasker. We will get to her later.
Rice, Power, Ben Rhodes and John Brennan have all been subpeoned by the House Investigators.
If it turns out, as many suspect, that the "unmasking" was used for domestic spying on political foes such as Trump,
it would constitute a serious crime — and could require a special counsel to investigate it.
But the most mysterious story was the unmasking done by former UN Ambassador Samantha Power.
Samantha Power US ambassador to the United Nations
Samantha Power unmasked hundreds of US citizens right up to her last day in the Obama Administration.
She averaged over one per day in her last year in the Obama administration.
The names she unmasked were mostly people in the Trump Campaign.
Why was she working so hard? This level of unmasking required thousands of pages of paperwork.
Did she have help?
When confronted she said someone else used her name. She has since skated charges.
If what she says is true, who used her name? And why?
Samantha Power was part of John Brennan's inner circle.
Like Brennan she is a rabid Trump hater. Power has sort of disappeared after the election.
Her notable foray back into public life was tweeting her infamous threat to Trump that;
"It is not a good idea to piss off John Brennan"
Let's think for a minute what happened to some of the people that pissed off John Brennan.
- Lt. Quarles Harris Jr., a former Brennan employee one day before testifying - executed in his car.
- Michael Hastings - About to publish the biggest expose of his career re Brennan. Blown up in his car.
- Seth Rich - Alledged source for Wiki Leaks on DNC emails. Shot twice in the back in front of his apartment.
Susan Rice Obama's National Security Director
Monday [April 2, 2018] that President Obama’s national security adviser Susan Rice allegedly ordered the
unmasking of the identities of Trump campaign aides who were reportedly being surveilled during the 2016 election.
The recent reports further prove, at least in part, President Donald Trump’s claims that senior Obama officials had collected intelligence on
Trump aids and disseminated it throughout the government.
Rice’s involvement — as it relates to her reported role in the unmasking of Trump aids and circulating sensitive information —
places the longtime Obama operative at the center of another major political scandal.
Below are five facts from Susan Rice scandals every American should know.
1. Susan Rice allegedly ordered surveillance of Donald Trump’s 2016 election campaign aides as part of a political intelligence
Rice allegedly maintained spreadsheets of Trump aides’ telephone calls “one year before the 2016 presidential election,” according to the Daily Caller.
The Daily Caller
“What was produced by the intelligence community at the request of Ms. Rice were detailed spreadsheets of intercepted phone calls with
unmasked Trump associates in perfectly legal conversations with individuals,” diGenova told The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group Monday.
“The overheard conversations involved no illegal activity by anybody of the Trump associates, or anyone they were speaking with,” diGenova said.
“In short, the only apparent illegal activity was the unmasking of the people in the calls.”
2. Rice claimed that climate change was responsible for the deadly civil war in Syria.
“In the years prior to civil war breaking out in Syria, that country also experienced its worst drought on record,” Rice
in October 2015, during a speech at Stanford University. “Farming families moved en masse into urban centers,
increasing political unrest and further priming the country for conflict.”
Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have been killed in the conflict since President Barack Obama drew his infamous “red line” in 2012,
promising to retaliate against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime if it used chemical weapons on its own people.
3. Rice once declared that there is “no military solution” to the raging conflict in
“As in Syria, there is no military solution to the crisis in Yemen,” Rice
in April 2015, during a speech at the Arab American Institute’s Kahlil Gibran Gala.
Seven months before Rice’s speech, President Obama had
his administration’s drone strike-driven military operation in Yemen a success story.
President Trump, however, ordered
against al-Qaeda in Yemen in February than any year in Obama’s presidency.
4. Susan Rice said accused deserter Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl served “with honor and distinction.”
In March 2015, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was
with treason for allegedly deserting his fellow soldiers and abandoning his Afghanistan outpost in 2009.
In a June 2014 broadcast of ABC’s
This Week, Susan Rice defended Bergdahl,
he “served the United States with honor and distinction. And we’ll have the opportunity eventually to learn what has transpired in the past years.”
, six soldiers lost their lives searching for then-Private First Class Bowe Bergdahl after he abandoned his outpost.
5. Susan Rice was the driving force behind a misinformation campaign about the Sept. 11, 2012, Benghazi terror attacks.
Then-UN Ambassador Rice, acting as the Obama White House’s spokeswoman, appeared on five Sunday morning talk shows and repeatedly claimed that the
Benghazi attacks had been caused by an anti-Islam video.
Rice appeared on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News, and CNN and regurgitated talking points purporting that the protests that had erupted
“spontaneously” near two U.S. government facilities in Benghazi, Libya and were a result of a “hateful video” that was offensive to Islam.
, released following a Judicial Watch lawsuit, reveal that government officials monitoring the attack in real-time did not cite
an anti-Islam video as an explanation for the paramilitary attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi.
In May 2015 interview, former Obama CIA Director Mike Morell said Rice’s Benghazi talking points blaming an anti-Islam YouTube video
crossed “the line between national security and politics.”
“I think the line in there that says one of our objectives here right on the Sunday show is to blame the video rather than a failure of policy,” Morell
on Fox News’
Special Report. “And as you know, I say in the book that I think that that is crossing the line between national security and politics.”
